FED: NSW death lifts national holiday road toll to five

New South Wales has recorded its first road death for the holiday period .. raising the national holiday road toll to five.

Police say three cars crashed just before the Woronora Bridge in Sydney's south .. instantly killing one person and trapping others.

The New South Wales fatality came .. after the death of a 55-year pedestrian in Victoria earlier today.

Police say the man was struck by a semi-trailer while walking on a lane on the Princes freeway at Trafalgar south-east of Melbourne early this morning .. and became the second person to die in that state since the holiday season started yesterday.

Meanwhile .. in Queensland .. a motorcyclist died early today in a high speed crash at Emerald after evading police attempts to stop him.

It was the first road death in Queensland this holiday season.

There has been one death in the Northern Territory .. all other states and territories remain fatality free at this stage.
